Catherine Serianni

Catherine is a student in Columbia College hoping to double major in Psychology and Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies. She is interested in fusing social psychology with forced migration and cultural/religious conflict studies, and hopes to connect research to applications in policy and programming. Catherine worked in the refugee resettlement sector establishing an infrastructure for obtaining viable translators and tutoring the English language for families, among other things. She served as the Media/Outreach Director of the non-profit organization, New Syrian Human, an organization focused on female Syrian refugee women and children, and was in charge of program development, funding acquisition, recruitment, and media representation. In addition to working for ASPIRE, Catherine serves as a research assistant in the Morton Deutsch Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution. In her spare time, Catherine enjoys documentary filmmaking and video journalism, and is especially interested in exploring suppressed stories and perspectives.
