Uğur Tekin, Ph.D., is Professor and Head of the Social Work Department at Istanbul Aydin University. He completed his Ph.D. at Köln University, Germany. Between 2000 and 2010, he worked at Köln University, Klagenfurt University and the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf. Since 2011, he has worked at the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Aydin University.T he areas of his research interests cover social work, migration, youth sociology, criminal sociology and education. He has published books, articles and reports on Syrian refugees’ education, transnational social work, social work and migration in Turkey, criminalization of youth, social services for street children, and education. Currently, he is conducting research on social and healthcare services for the elderly in Istanbul.

Deniz Yükseker, Ph.D., is chair in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul Aydin University. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from Binghamton University in 2000. She worked at the Sociology Department of Koç University between 2003 and 2015, and was co-founder and executive board member of the Koç University Social Policy Centre between 2010 and 2015. She is also co-editor of Turkey’s leading English-language social science journal, New Perspectives on Turkey. Her research interests encompass a range of fields including social policy, migration studies, labor studies, gender studies and education. She has published research articles and book chapters in English and Turkish on migration patterns in Turkey, African migrants and asylum seekers in Istanbul, Kurdish internal displacement and the transnational informal trade between Turkey and the former Soviet Union. Currently, she is consulting a research project about eliminating child labor in the hazelnut supply chain in Turkey.
